    The conference further enhances the understanding of the Mission and Vision of Outdoor Programs-Fishing. You will be provided with a CAI course manual that guides your step by step instructions, in creating a CAI course for your area. Conference includes in depth discussion on CAI course design, team member recruitment and development, financial planning, facility considerations, and course marketing. The course highlights best practices on content delivery, in both the classroom and the field.

    This conference is facilitated by the BSA National Fishing Committee, with a focus on providing enhancements to your BSA Fishing Programs. Course will cover Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing Fishing Programs held at the Unit, District, and Council Level.


    Course delivers an understanding of the Mission and Vision of Outdoor Programs-Fishing, assisting in your efforts to Deliver the Promise. You will learn age based and skill appropriate fishing tools and techniques for your Scouts, ranging from the Cane Pole to Fly Fishing. The course highlights best practices on content delivery, in both the classroom and the field. 


    Enjoy Philmont in the fall, experience the fine art of fly fishing, fish legendary waters, and catch release some great wild trout! 


    Course Graduates will become BSA Certified Angling Instructors (Training Code CS61). FISH ON!

    The ORANGE COUNTY COUNCIL BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA is hosting and invites you to participate in an extensive Certified Angling Instructor (CAI) Training to be held in at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Center and the beautiful Oso Lake from Friday 4th October – 6th October 2019.

     

    The training is being organized under the Certified Angling Instructor Fishing Camp School which is an official BSA Certification (bsafishing.com) for Fishing and Fly-Fishing programs and merit badge instructor. This course will qualify an individual for National Fishing Staff positions at Jamborees, Order of the Arrow Conferences, and help train Fishing Staffs for all BSA Camps.


    The main role of this training workshop is to equip participants who will receive the greatest value from this training are Unit/District/ Volunteer Scouters, Professional Scouters, Council Camp Staffers, Merit Badge Counselors and Cub Scout day camp staff.


    The course is taught using the EDGE Method, which provides the graduate the necessary tools to design, develop, and provide leadership to BSA fishing programs offered to Packs, Troops and Crews at a Unit, District, and Council level


    The course is limited to 30 registered participants, in order to fully train each with the knowledge and skills to maintain the quality of the information and training provided to each .A unique aspect of the workshop is the hands on-training, technical and skill assistance to participants and complete tools to be proficient in the CAI Course.

     

     

    The training workshop will cover the components in the table below.

     

    Module

    Description

    Introduction

    Provides an overview of the training course, its rationale, and helps participants and trainers get to know each other.

    Conventional Fishing Methods

    Provides an understanding of Conventional fishing equipment and how to rig, spin, casting skills, open and closed spinning reels, line control, hooking, playing and landing fish

    Fly Fishing and Fly-Fishing methods tying flies

    Develop knowledge and skills for fly casting, rod balance and fly tying, you will make and tie your own flies and use them at OSO lake to catch fish, as well as establishing and maintaining meaningful techniques.

    Knot Tying

    Builds on knowledge of several knots, knot tying and strength of the knot. Knot strength test.

    Finding Fish

    Develops knowledge and skills in determining where to fish and how to locate fish in streams lakes rivers dams and ocean. Builds understanding of the of how to identify where to fish and match the hatch.

    Cleaning Fish and Cook fish

    Builds understanding of the of how to gut fillet, cook by  implementing the edge method

    Teaching fishing to Scouts for MB

    Brings the training to a close and presents the new CAI’s training skills into practice by teaching and fishing Sunday to Scouts attending and completing their MB with each new CAI.
